Funeral service for Margaret Brodahl Cifonelli (nee Brodahl),93, of Barrington, will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 29 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd), Barrington, where the family will be receiving friends from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica, NY.
Born August 22, 1917 in Duluth, MN, to the late Martin and Anna (nee Watten) Brodahl, she married the late Dr. Joseph Anthony Cifonelli on June 11, 1949. Margaret passed away peacefully June 25 at her home in Barrington.
She graduated from Duluth State Teachers college with a Bachelors of Education in 1939, and a Master of Science in organic chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1953. She was an instructor at the University of Minnesota in Duluth and also taught at Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in Blue Island.
She loved playing bridge with the Tocos bridge club, attending the Chicago and Elgin Symphony Orchestras and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She enjoyed reading, her book club, and traveling, especially taking cruises. Margaret’s true love was her family.
Survivors include her children, John (Sally Deniston) Cifonelli, Margaret A “Peggy” (Steve Rasmussen) Cifonelli, Mary Cifonelli, and Catherine (Gregory Wuerfel) Cifonelli; cherished grandchildren, Jonathan (Alexandra Relias) Cifonelli and David Cifonelli, Camille and Anna Rasmussen, great grandson, Augustus Cifonelli; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Milton Brodahl; and sisters, Clara, Alma and Mabel Brodahl.
