Margaret “Peggy” A. Duffy

Of Cary, formerly a longtime resident of Denver

Passed away peacefully, Feb. 10,2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 6, 1953 in Xenia, Ohio to Harold and Margaret (nee Welsh) Bestervelt.

Peggy was a 1971 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and a graduate of Metro State College in Denver and worked at AT & T for many years.  During her time in Denver she was active with the Colorado Wild Life Rescue.  She was married Sept. 11, 1976 to Michael J. Duffy and moved to Illinois in 1987 where she became involved with McHenry County Friends of the Prairie and was a children’s librarian at the Cary Public Library, inspiring children with her love of reading.

She was a joint member of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cary for 21 years, and more recently of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Barrington.  Peggy was an avid reader, she enjoyed bird watching, gardening, English  History, literature, and her dogs.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her three daughters and her husband.

Peggy is survived by her husband Mike, daughters, Rose, Hannah, and Margaret, sisters Toni (Michael) Magle, Kate (Bill) Scharff, and Mary (Michael) Bailey, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents. A Memorial Mass will be held 12pm Friday April 13, at St. Anne Catholic Church.  The family will receive visitors at the church from 10am until the time of the mass.  Private burial at St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, McHenry County, IL.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cary Library Youth Services, 1606 Three Oaks Road, Cary, IL 60013

Memorial Mass will be held at 12pm Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela St, Barrington.  The family will receive visitors from 10am until the time of the mass at 12pm, at the church.

Private burial at St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, McHenry County, IL.

Guests (and those unable to attend the mass) are welcome to join the family for a reception following the mass in the private room at McGonigals Restaurant, 105 S. Cook St, Barrington, IL from 1pm until 4pm.
