Maria del Refugio (Rodriguez) Rivas

Maria del Refugio Rivas Rodriguez, 85, of Crystal Lake passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018.  She was born on July 3, 1932 in San Pedro, Piedra Gorda Zacatecas to Anacleto Rodriguez and Guadalupe Gaytan.

Maria married Felipe Rivas in 1951 in Mexico.  In 1986 they moved to Illinois to be closer to their children and grandchildren who had moved here previously.

Maria enjoyed gardening, cooking for her large family, and being a grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Javier (Romelia), Lalo, Ezequiel (Carmen), Martin (Eulalia), Eladio (Irene), Anita Ramirez (Trancito), Maricela Chacon (Alvaro), Eduardo, Juanis Acevedo (Jesus), Leticia Szpila (Robert), and Patricia Ibarra (Ricardo); 29 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Felipe and her daughters-in-law, Maria and Eva.

To honor Maria’s wishes, she will be cremated.  A memorial visitation will be Sunday, April 22 from 3 PM until 7 PM with a prayer service to start at 4 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake.   Her cremated remains will then be buried in her hometown in Mexico.
