Marjorie Elizabeth “Betty” Reeder Edgerton of Lake Barrington, formerly of Woodstock passed away early Friday, November 13 in her home. She was born November 20, 1916-oldest child and only daughter – to R. Milton Reeder and Ruth Vail Reeder in Mount Vernon, Ohio. She was just a few days from her 99th birthday. After graduation from Mount Vernon High School, she attended Columbus Business College. Following her education, she worked at the Knox County Courthouse until her marriage to Henry Kirk Edgerton in 1943. The couple met at Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio. She followed her husband to Richmond, Virginia where he was stationed in the Army Air corps. While there she worked at McGuire Air Base- processing German prisoners of war. After the war the couple returned to Ohio for a number of years, then moved to Shullsburg, Wisconsin for business interest. In 1957 a move brought them to Woodstock where they lived for 43 years. In Woodstock, Betty was very involved in her children’s activities – PTA, and school volunteer. She was very active at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, Woodstock – serving on the alter guild. She volunteered at Woodstock Memorial Hospital and delivered Meals On Wheels, and was a member of the Woodstock Women’s Club. Betty enjoyed reading, playing bridge, playing golf, watching Ohio State football, the Chicago Bulls, and watching professional golf. She was a talented pianist and worked numerous needlepoint projects. Betty enjoyed many summers at the family vacation home in Northern Wisconsin. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry, her parents, and four of her five brothers, Robert, Neil, Lowell, and Dean Reeder. She is survived by her daughter, Constance and son John; grandsons, Ian (Amy) and Chase; and great-grandchildren, Katherine and Henry; brother, Kenneth Reeder; and many nieces and nephews. A family service was held November 18 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Barrington Hills. Memorial services will be held in Mount Vernon, Ohio and Springbrook, WI at later dates.
