Martha Hunter, 88, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at Alden Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates. She was born October 8, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH, daughter of Arnold Francis and Georgia Mottley Carrico. She was a graduate of Avon High School in Avon, IL and married John R. Hunter of Avon in Elkhart, IN May 17, 1947. For many years she was assistant to the Director of Financial Aid at Knox College in Galesburg, IL and also served the Village of Avon, where she lived for 55 years. She moved with her husband in 1997 to Galesburg, where John died in 2001, and she lived there until 2011 when she moved to Algonquin, IL to be closer to family. She was an avid golfer and gardener. Martha loved her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family immensely, hosting many family reunions and celebrations at her home. She was a member of the Federated Church of the Good Shepherd in Avon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant sister Mary Ellen, and her brothers, Frank Carrico of New Orleans, LA and Charles Ray Carrico of Champaign, IL. She is survived by sister Patricia Carrico of Panacea, FL, son Thomas Kirk Hunter of Healdsburg, CA, daughter Susan (Paul) Pearce of Lake Barrington, IL, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11am on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Avon. Visitation will begin one hour before the services. Arrangements are handled by Davenport Family Funeral Home of Barrington, IL, www.davenportfamily.com.
