Martin Patmore was born in Argentina of British parents, Violet and Norman Patmore. When he was very young, his family moved back to England, where he grew up playing rugby and going to school. He started working at International Harvester in London, as Product Manager of farm equipment and soon became the Regional Manager for all of Latin America. There, he met and married the love of his life - his wife, Margarita. Shortly thereafter, they were transferred to Chicago, where he became World Manager of Farm Equipment for JI Case, a position he held until his retirement.
His life was a mosaic of hard work, travel, and dedication to his family both abroad in England and at home with his beloved daughter Jackie and Margarita.
At his core, Martin was an industrious and practical man who loved his family. He wasn’t one for big displays of affection, but his actions spoke volumes to those who mattered most. Martin lived his life with a mix of sharp wit, endless stories, and humor that left people laughing. He valued honesty and authenticity, and while he could be stubborn and direct, those who knew him best understood his depth and loyalty.
A lifelong lover of nature, he found peace on the water with a fishing pole in hand, under the stars on a camping trip, on a farm, or beneath the waves while scuba diving. His wanderlust took him on travels far and wide to every continent (minus Antarctica) on the globe from which he drew a deep appreciation for different cultures and their histories.
Martin leaves behind a lifetime of lessons, laughter, stories, a legacy of world-wide adventure and unique experiences.
He is survived by his wife, Margarita; daughter, Jackie and her husband, Banks; sister, Margaret; sister-in-laws, Martha, Margarita María, Blanquita, and Madeleine; brother-in-laws, Mauricio and Hernando; nieces and nephews, Karen, Mark, Katie, Joanna, Andrew, Daniel, Mauricio Andrés, Carlos, Carolina, Jonathan, William, Giovanni, Soraya; as well as their spouses and dear children, who will carry forward his mix of grit, humor, and love.
A celebration of Martin’s life will take place on December 15, 2024 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 4:30 pm CT and a memorial service will be held from 4:30 pm to 5 pm CT.
