BARRINGON – Mary B. Anderlik (96), of Barrington, Illinois passed peacefully on Saturday, June 04, 2011 at Lexington Health Care Facility in Lake Zurich, IL, following a brief illness.
She was born at home on the farm on March 14,1915, in Parnell, IA the oldest daughter of Arthur Dermody and Mary Jane Duffy. She graduated from Parnell Public Schools taught by the Sisters of Humility and entered into nurses training at Mercy Hospital and acquired her Registered Nurse degree in 1936.
She married the love of her life, Ralph Anderlik, on October 2,1939, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, IA. They later moved to Barrington in 1944, where her husband was employed at Jewel Tea Company. Mary tenderly practiced nursing at Sherman Hospital and went on to private duty care.
She was a strong and loving person and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary dedicated her life to caring for the sick to find comfort and peace through her unyielding compassion and service as a registered nurse. Her Irish background influenced the way she lived and raised her family.
She was an active member of St. Anne’s Church since 1944, St. Anne’s Women’s Club, Young at Heart and the Barrington Historical Society.
She is survived by her four sons: Jim (Dini) of Johnston, IA, Ed (Kathy) of Crystal Lake, IL, Tom of Buffalo Grove, IL and John (Karen) of Richardson, TX, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers Clement Dermody, Parnell, IA, Arthur Jr. (Marietta) Dermody, Williamsburg, IA and a sister, Bernice Skarbek, Cedar Rapids, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents Art and Mayme Duffy Dermody, her loving husband, Ralph, and her daughter, Mary Lou; a sister Margaret Eichorst, a sister-in-law Blanche Dermody, and brothers-in-law Richard Eichorst and Herbert Skarbek.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Davenport Funeral Home, 149 W Main St., (Lake Cook Rd.), Barrington.
A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held Thursday, June 9,2011, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 120 North Ela Street, Barrington, with visitation from 9:00am until the time of mass at 10:00am. A private family burial will be held at the family plot in Iowa City, IA on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Noon.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Anne’s Women’s Club or a charity of your choice in her name.
