Mary Margaret “Marmee” Beyer

Mary Margaret “Marmee” Beyer, 82, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2015. She was born on March 18, 1933 in Spring Valley, Il to Stephen and Rose (nee McDonald) Flanagan. Marmee attended high school at St. Clara Academy in Sinsinawa, WI. She later went on to be the first secretary for St. Thomas School and continued there for 7 years.

Marmee was also a member of Alano Club in Crystal Lake since 1974. She was happily married for 46 years to her cherished husband, Bill. Avid sports fans, there was always a TV on playing her beloved Packers, Fighting Irish, Cubs, college basketball, and even auto racing. They loved traveling. She had visited Ireland, Canada, and every state except Hawaii, collecting magnets from each to fill her fridge. Her family will remember her signature bright, red lipstick and meticulously painted nails, as well as her love for helping others and feeding the birds in her backyard. She loved playing bridge, singing in the choir, and hosting BBQs on her deck in the summer. Marmee had more friends around town than anyone else in the family. She had a knack for turning a small grocery trip into a prolonged visit with everyone in the store.

Marmee will be deeply missed by her loving children, Mark W. (Terry), and David M. (Cindy) Beyer; grandchildren, Jon, Michael, Kelli, Katie, Steven, Jessica and Daniel; and by her sister, Marian Stutz. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, William Beyer; her son, William Jr.; sister, Delores Smith O’Brien, brother Donald Smith and by her daughter-in-law, Tracy Beyer.

Her celebration of life will be Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 3 PM until 8 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (IL Rt 176) Crystal Lake. Visitors are encouraged to wear sports apparel. Funeral mass will be Monday, August 31 at 10 AM at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. All are invited to go directly to church. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or The Alano Club of Crystal Lake, 36 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
