Mary Duffy leaves behind memories of a life well-lived, an example of good humor, a commitment to learning and a demonstration of the value of love.
She recently celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by family and friends. She was a remarkable, intelligent lady. Her graceful demeanor was underscored by a delightful quick wit and a sense of mirth.
If you knew her, you knew her friendship and sense of fun. She embodied a love of family, friends and learning. Late in life she mastered the computer. She was always surrounded by her books and opera music.
During her 100 years she lived her life to the fullest. She was at the heart of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Center for Pastoral Ministry under Rev. James P. Roache for several years. Subsequently, she moved to the Chancery Office under Cardinal Bernardin. In her retirement she traveled the world visiting every continent except for Antarctica. She was a great sports fan and the consummate Notre Dame fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband John J. Duffy, her parents Patrick and Mary Tuohy, her siblings Catherine, Anna, James, John, Agnes and granddaughter Mary.
She is survived by her children: Neil; Mary Kay (Laurence, M.D.) Gott; Brian (Patricia); five grandchildren: Conal (Sarah) Duffy; Peter (Deborah) Duffy; Bridget (Kevin) Kennedy; Daniel (Heather) Gott; Kathleen (Thomas) Boscher and 15 great grandchildren.
