Christine Nieman Gettig, 71, of Crystal Lake, born March 21, 1943, in Elmira, New York, passed away peacefully December 24, 2014, surrounded by her family at home.
Christine grew up in Topeka, Kansas, and graduated from Washburn University. Her hobbies included painting, quilting, drawing, gardening, doing word puzzles and sharing her life’s experiences. Her most cherished roles were devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. Her greatest joy of all was being Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Christine is survived by her children Jonathan (Laura) Gettig, Sarah (Gene) Schrempf and Andrew (Jenni) Gettig; grandchildren Jackie, Jon, Josh, Jazzmin, Alex, Paige, Justin and Nathan; great-grandchildren Hailey and Mia; sisters Holle (Richard) Baskett, Jan (late Bill) Smith and Joy Klausen; and brother Kurt Nieman. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. L. “Butch” and Mary Jeanette Nieman, and son Matthew Gettig.
A celebration of life will be held 4-9pm, Saturday January 3 at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake.
