Barrington, Illinois,Mary Edna Reece Hoy, 91, a three year resident of Alden Estates of Barrington, Illinois, died on March 18, 2010. She was born November 13, 1918 in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of Clark Frank and Ruby (nee Bouslog) Reece. Mary attended Butler University in Indianapolis, where she pledged Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She and her sister Ruth christened the first two ships to leave for Africa during World War II. Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kappa Kappa Kappa, Indiana Sorosis, and the Westwood Country Club. Mary and her husband founded Harmon H. Hoy Jewelers in downtown New Castle in 1949 and operated the business until 1995. The family cottage at Lake Santee, Indiana was a source of family enjoyment during retirement years. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her four children, Susannah Ruth (David) Van Dam, Stephen Reece Hoy, Julia Lee Sweigart, and John David Hoy; eight grandchildren, Kaia Van Dam (Matthew) Kraus, Mary Van Dam (Carlos) Saez, Leigh Van Dam (Brian) Niven, Tait (Chaille) Sweigart, Lee (Christine) Sweigart, Elizabeth Hoy, Courtney Hoy and Michael Hoy; and great-grandchildren Hayden, Andrew and Reid Kraus, Elena, Lucia and CJ Saez, Mary Reece, Chloe and Wesley Niven, Mary Arlene Sweigart, and Max Sweigart. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harmon H. Hoy, great grandson Eli H. Sweigart, infant brother John Clark Reece, and sister Ruth Susannah Reece. The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon, Monday, March 22 at Sproles Family Funeral Home, 2400 South Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362-1105, where visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be immediately following the funeral at South Mound Cemetery, Henry County, Indiana.
