The Celebration of Life service for Mary Elizabeth Landa (nee Humphrey), will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, June 30, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, where there will be visitation from 12 noon until the time of service.
Born July 6, 1960, she passed away suddenly Saturday, June 15, 2013.
Mary grew up in Rock Island and graduated from Rock Island High School before departing for Western Illinois University, where she graduated in 1983. The summer after graduation she married Scott Landa while he was attending law school at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Within a few years, Scott and Mary moved back to the Northwest suburbs where Mary took a job as a teacher at Woodstock High School. Mary remained at Woodstock High School for 25 years as a physical education, health, and drivers education teacher until her passing. Mary will be remembered by more than two decades of students for her warm personality, caring manner, and learning-should-be-fun attitude. Mary will also be remembered by all for her love of music, the arts, and most of all for her love of people.
Survivors include her son, Blake Connor Landa; parents, Bob and Rhoda Humphrey; brother, Rob Humphrey; uncle and aunt, Nelvin and Judy Wistedt; and many cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Richard Landa.
