Mary McCarthy

Mary (Svoboda) McCarthy of Barrington, IL, died peacefully on November 2, 2022. Born on June 15, 1928, Mary was a graduate of Maine Township High School and Carleton College where she met the love of her life and husband of 69 years, Dr. Lloyd McCarthy, MD.

During their working years, Mary was the business manager for Lloyd’s practice. Together, she and Lloyd traveled to over 100 countries worldwide, including Antarctica, South Africa, Australia, and the Far East. Mary was an award-winning photographer of nature, travel, and wildlife. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Photographic Society of America and judged domestic and international photographic salons. Mary was a prolific reader and a member of the Garden Club of Barrington.

Cherished wife of Dr. Lloyd McCarthy. Sister of Joe and Jim (Barbara) Svoboda. Aunt to Jeff, Tom, Greg, Sandra and Stephen Svoboda. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph J., and Florence Svoboda, and sister-in-law, Kay Svoboda. Services will be private.
