Mary Louise Murray, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who met her, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the age of 80, after a long battle with cancer. Mary's three children, Thomas Michael, Mary Patricia and Colin Henry, survive her.
Mary was born on December 23, 1942 to Louis and Lillian Mayer of Yonkers, New York, Mary attended Gorton High School and then Good Counsel College in White Plains, followed by Columbia School of Nursing in Manhattan, where she met and married Thomas Murray MD (now deceased). With three children at home, Mary postponed her nursing education to raise a family in Riverdale, NY. There, she also contributed as a producer to a local theatre company called the Riverdale Playhouse.
In 1975 Mary moved her family to the Biltmore neighborhood in North Barrington, Illinois. Once settled, Mary obtained an Illinois real estate broker’s license followed by years of service at Barrington Realty on Main Street. Mary loved to read, cook, sail, walk her dog (Poppy) and entertain friends.
In addition to being survived by her three children and their spouses (Ceasar, George and Alexis), many mourn Mary’s passing, including her four treasured grandsons, George Jr., Patrick, Owen and Henry; Mary’s dear sister, Janet Acerbi, and nieces, Patricia (Jonathan) and Elisabeth.
A private memorial will be held on November 30th at Davenport Funeral Home in Barrington. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in memory at St Anne’s Fund for helping asylum seekers. The family is grateful to the entire team at Sunrise of Barrington, and in particular hospice nurses Vanessa Cisneros and Allyson Metz, for making Mary comfortable and happy over the last six months of her life.
