It is with excruciating sorrow we announce the death of our beautiful son, Matthew Joseph Fetherling. Matthew passed away at the age of 26 in Springfield, IL on May 28, 2021.
He leaves behind a 4 year old son, Nash, along with Nash's mother, Sharis Wilson, both of whom Matt loved deeply. He also leaves behind his parents, Mike and Trish Fetherling; his two brothers, Joseph and Michael Fetherling; and grandparent, Fran Fetherling. Matthew played matchmaker for his Grandmother, Pat Schenk and even introduced her to the love of her life, Grandfather Jack Schenk, over fishing - a sport Matthew loved. He also leaves behind three uncles, Craig (Annette) Fetherling, Fred (Susan) Noodwang, and Tom Noodwang; and nieces, cousins, friends and many extended family.
One of Matthew's deepest desires was to make his son, Nash, proud. Matthew was preceded in death by his beloved Grandpa Tony whom he looked up to, deeply respected and who was one of his favorite people on earth. He spent many hours sitting in Grandpa Tony's garage, smoking cigars and telling stories. Matthew was athletic, worked hard, enjoyed getting his hands dirty, liked being outside and played numerous sports (baseball, track, football and his favorite - wrestling). He loved to fish, swim, go 4-wheeling and tinker with cars. Matt could make you laugh just by grinning. He loved deeply, was sensitive and had fierce determination. He was also a prankster and a creative one at that.
Matt had a walk you could identify from 100 yards away, a million dollar smile and ocean eyes. Matt loved southern Illinois and often commented that he enjoyed the quiet there. He liked driving country roads at night and remarked often about how many stars he could see down south. Matthew was intelligent, fearless and fun to be around. His sense of humor was raw but wonderful. He will be missed and he will be loved forever in our hearts.
Matthew's visitation will be held Saturday, June 5, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 East Terra Cotta Avenue (Rt. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014 beginning at 3pm and concluding with a funeral service at 7pm. Family is welcome to speak and/or share stories about Matt.
With regards to flowers, we ask for dish gardens or live plants so family may hold onto Matthew a little longer.
We ask that any donation go directly to his son, Nash Fetherling.
