Maureen M. Alsip, age 84, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022. Maureen was born in Birmingham, England in 1938, and returned to Ireland with her parents as an infant.
At the age of 16 she set sail for America with her dear sister Breege, dancing her way across the Atlantic on what was said to be a very rough voyage. Although she emigrated from Ireland, she always kept Ireland and her family in her heart.
Maureen lived with her beloved Aunt Mary, Uncle Jim, and sister Breege upon her arrival in Chicago in 1955. Other sisters came to join them in Chicago, but were always pulled back to the Emerald Isle. Maureen settled in the Chicago area for the rest of her life, growing very deep roots, as so many of you know. She touched countless lives through her career at Miami Corporation and her work in the Fox Valley community.
The love of her life was her beloved husband, Jim. Their 42 year marriage was an inspiration for their many nieces and nephews. It gives us great comfort to know they are reunited in the next life, hopefully driving around the southwest states in their
Mercedes.
Our cherished Maureen will always be remembered for her brilliant sense of style, her deep love for her family and friends, that beautiful brogue accent, and her endless compassion for animals or as she referred to them, her creatures.
Maureen is survived by her creatures, Chappy and Fiona, a large extended family of siblings, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A remembrance ceremony will be held in Sligo, Ireland in the coming months.
