Maureen Ann Bingham

Maureen Ann Bingham (Tarpey), age 64, of Lake in the Hills, IL passed away on March 16, 2025. Loving and proud wife of Herman (Ted) Bingham. Remarkable mother to Nora (Andres) Fonseca and Neil Bingham. The best grandmother to her darlings – Sol and Rudy Fonseca. And grandma to Viv, her grand-dog. She was the middle-child sibling to Mary Pat Tarpey (Tim Lamke), Bill (Kathy) Tarpey and Kathleen (Hiram) Johnson.

 Early on Maureen requested that they call her Maureen O’Hara because she was smart and beautiful. The Fun Aunt to Meaghan and Roger Cheverette, Katie and Casey McGrain, Terry Bingham, Will, Mason, Bella, and Ellie. Sister-in-law to a lucky John and Jenny Bingham. She adored her parents, Bill and Mary Tarpey, who are greeting her now. She considered her aunts and uncles her role models: those who survive her – Eleanor and Don Kraft, Bob and Bev Tarpey, Gerry and Donna Tarpey, John McCafferty, Sr. Patricia McCafferty, and Larry Waco; and those that are not with us – Jim and Theresa Tarpey, Tom and Barb Tarpey and Noreen Waco. She is survived by many cousins who she considered to be her first and true partners-in-crime. 

Maureen had a broad definition of family that included her fabulous friends and all those at St. Thomas the Apostle school and parish. Maureen was wicked smart, graduating from the University of Notre Dame and DePaul MBA. She started out saving the world in accounting, but realized she was, and always will be, a teacher at heart. She loved her work and she loved her students. She was named teacher of the year for the Rockford diocese. She loved hockey, Notre Dame football, St. Patrick’s Day, Italian lemon cookies, champagne and a good underdog. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to St. Mary of Providence, 4200 N. Visitation services for Maureen will be held at Davenport Family Funeral Home 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave, Rte 176 Crystal Lake IL, on Friday, March 21 from 4pm-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am Saturday, March 22 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL. Burial to follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park in Crystal Lake, IL. Luncheon to follow at the gathering space inside St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
