Michael McEwen Bignell, 72, of Woodstock, Illinois passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 5, 2023. He was born September 11, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois to Howard and Jean Bignell.
Michael loved his motorcycle and teaching others motorcycle riding. He taught many students the love of riding and the importance of safety. He was an avid fisherman, especially musky fishing in northern Wisconsin. Michael served in the US Navy, stationed on the USS Goldsborough DDG20 as a gunner’s mate. He served 3 ½ tours, stationed in Vietnam, Korea, and Hawaii.
Michael was also a diehard Chicago Cubs fan; a highlight for Michael was attending one of their world series games at the friendly confines.
Michael was a recipient of many awards for excellence for the ABC Supply Co. Inc where he had been employed for over 20 years. He also has a great passion for all animals, especially his many fur babies.
Michael is survived by his wife, Denise (nee Hawley) Bignell, whom he married May 5, 2017 in Woodstock, Illinois; children, Whitney Bignell and Corry Cox; Grandchildren, Emily Cox, Juliet Cox, and Caleb Cox; great grandchildren, Hazel Cox and Taniyah Cox; siblings, M. Faye Redmond, Maryanne (Rudy) Crandell, and Mathew Bignell; nieces and nephews; Kristin (Jon) Baran, Clinton Bignell, Erin (Chris) Carney, and Melissa (Russ) Redmond; brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Tamara Hawley; niece; Abigail Hancock; nephew, Jacob (Des) Hawley; great niece and nephew; Adelaide Grace Hawley and Ryker Hawley; great nephews, Owen and Ben Hancock.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Jean Bignell; sister, Michelle Bignell, and niece, Amanda Bignell.
Michael will be deeply missed and forever loved by everyone who ever had the opportunity to meet him.
