Michael Retz

Michael J. Retz, 64, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Centegra Hospital - Woodstock, surrounded by his family after a 3 three-year miraculous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on June 9, 1949 to the late Andrew M. and Katherine (Deyoe) Retz in Nyack, New York. On February 20, 1971 he married Susan Skjoldager at Redeemer Episcopal Church in Elgin, IL.

Mike graduated from Conant High School in Hoffman Estates and Southwest Computer School in Albuquerque, NM. He was very active in The Boy Scouts and was proud of his rank as Eagle Scout.

He was self-employed as a computer consultant and loved his work.
A long-time member of St. Mary Episcopal Church in Crystal Lake, he was very involved, most recently, heading up the finance committee, and a member of the vestry.

Besides his wife Susan, Mike is survived by his mother, Katherine of Denison TX; children, Eric (Katherine) of Crystal Lake and Kelly (Seamus) Rees of Fulton, MO; two grandsons he adored, Jacob Retz and Henry Rees; siblings, William (Julia) of Denison, TX and Kathleen (James) Findlay of Washington Island, WI; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dawn and Dennis Vollmer of Port Barrington; uncle, Edward Deyoe, Glens Falls, NY; many nieces, nephews, and great friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and a brother-in-law.

The visitation will take place Friday, May 23rd, from 4 to 7:30pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte 176), Crystal Lake. The Episcopal Liturgy of the Resurrection will be at 10:30am Saturday, May 24th at St. Mary Episcopal Church, 210 McHenry Avenue, Crystal Lake. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mike’s name to the St. Mary Episcopal Church’s organ fund.
