Michael A. Scholl

March 20, 1952 — October 30, 2021

Davenport, Barrington

Mike was born on March 20, 1952 to Rita and Arthur Scholl in Reading, Pennsylvania and passed away at his home in Cary, Illinois on October 30, 2021.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Debbie (nee Heath).  Mike is survived by his three children, Chris (Sarah), Megan (Mike), and Courtney; six grandchildren, Julianna, Trinity, Nathan, Melana, Max and Major; brother, Steve (Cindy) Scholl; and two sisters Mary (Paul Kilduff) Scholl and Anne (Luc) Scholl-Fiedler.  He and Debbie also fostered many foster children throughout the years.

Growing up Mike lived in numerous states including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Delaware, Arizona and Taipei, Taiwan where he attended Taipei American School and was an avid Rugby player.  Mike attended college at the University of Arizona where he met his wife, Debbie, and married in the desert. After college graduation and their wedding, they then moved to Illinois and raised their family. He was a loving and devoted father who restored their Victorian home in Barrington, coached his kid's sports games, and ensured adventurous vacations at the lake in Wisconsin and back East in Pennsylvania and Maryland. He captured those moments through his talent and interest in photography.

An avid Bears fan, Mike was a jack of many trades and a “builder” of things and relationships. He started his career as a Firefighter with the Buffalo Grove Fire Department, helping to train a generation of firefighters during his time there and becoming part of a worldwide extended family.  He owned a custom furniture and cabinet company, was a police and fire commissioner in the Village of Barrington, supervised snow removal operations at Chicago O’Hare Airport, and most recently drove a school bus for the public schools in Barrington. Through the pandemic, he helped to ensure that school children received their lunches, engaged in gardening, and connected with loved ones.  His passion for community service and education was always a common thread throughout his lifetime.  From an early age, Mike was also a talented sketch artist and built train sets for the enjoyment of all.

Services and a celebration of life will be held at Northfield Community Church at 400 Wagner Rd in Northfield IL, on December 11th, at 1 pm.  Donations may be made in memoriam to The Cradle at https://www.cradle.org/support-the-cradle/ways-give
