Nancy June Saurmann, nee Hourigan, 68, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with ALS. She is now reunited with, as she referred to him, the love of her life, Bubba (her golden retriever).
Nancy was born on June 13th,1953 in Chicago, IL to Robert and June Hourigan. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School receiving her Bachelor's Degree from Western Illinois University. She went on to work for Kemper Insurance where she was loved by clients and colleagues. After 13 years of success, she went back to school obtaining her Master's Degree in Special Education from Northern Illinois University. She went on to spend 22 years teaching at Cary-Grove Community High School. Teaching was her passion where she loved her students greatly and loved watching them succeed after high school.
Her interests included walking with friends, shopping at Chico's, crossword puzzles, going out to nice restaurants, teasing her brothers, and most of all spending time with her family. Nancy loved singing along to music and holistic health. She loved reminiscing about her times with childhood friends. Nancy is greatly loved and will be eternally missed by many.
Loving mother to Tim Saurmann and Maggie (Greg) Parkhill. Cherished "Mimi" to McKenzie and Madison Parkhill. Sister to Dan (Trudy), Patrick (Donna), Jim (JoAnn), Bob, Brian (Sally), and David (Mary) Hourigan. Loving aunt to Nick (Leticia) Cvietkovich, Kelley, Kathleen, Allison (Siddharth), Matt, Danny, Ryan, Robert, Jason (Candice), Brittney, Travis, Shannon, Connor and Colin Hourigan. Great Aunt to Jimmy, Tommy, Karter, Bentley, Sammy, and Ghily.
Preceded in death by her mother, June; father, Robert; and brother, Patrick Hourigan.
A memorial visitation for Nancy will be held from 9:00 am until the time of mass at 10:30 am on Saturday January 15, 2022 at St Anne Catholic Church 120 Ela St, Barrington, IL 60010.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lake Barrington Woods, who all knew Nancy and provided compassionate care thorough-out the course of her disease. Her caregiver, Hilda, provided her with exceptional care and was instrumental in allowing Nancy to maintain a level of independence during her years long battle.
