Nicholas William Dongas

June 8, 1950 — December 1, 2020

Davenport Lake Zurich

Nicholas William Dongas, 70, born in Chicago.

Devoted husband of Vrysida; loving father of Sophia, Procopeis, and Zoe; proud son of Vasilios and Elizabeth Dongas; elder brother of John and Dimitri; caring brother-in-law of Barbara and Paula; and dearest son-in-law of Procopeis and Sophia Antonelli.

Nicholas worked hard at Union Pacific for over 30 years to support and raise his family. All who knew him often described him as the most compassionate heart and smartest well spoken man they had interacted with. His big heart and quick wit enchanted all those around him and his legacy will be carried on through his children. He will be greatly missed. Not only was he the best father but also a terrific and accomplished musician. This is very apparent by his vast collection of flutes that fill baskets throughout his home. Many who interacted with him would say that he knew who he was and would never apologize for it.

After long battling sepsis and multiple organ failure, Nicholas passed quietly on December 1st in the arms of his children and his wife.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 4, 2020 from 11-1pm with a private funeral service at 12pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S Old Rand Rd, Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
