Nicoletta H. Claffey (nee Vastola),90, of Barrington, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012. She was born on October 2, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY.

She was the loving mother of Patricia (Hector) Claffey, Kathleen Toopes, Kevin (Donna) Claffey, Brian (Laurie) Claffey, James Claffey and Amy (Greg) Benjamin.  Cherished grandmother of Joshua (Amy) Toopes, Heather (Jeremy) Paladino, Courtney Toopes, Rebecca and Marissa Perez, Timothy, Brendan, Sarah Anne, Jason, and Kaitlyn Claffey, Henry, Nicoletta, Gabrielle, and Harrison Benjamin; great grandmother of , Ryann Toopes and Audrey Paladino; sister to Carmine Vastola and sister-in-law to RoseMarie Vastola; and aunt of many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter William Claffey; brother, Johnny Vastola; sister, Philmina Vastola; and sister-in-law, Edna Vastola.

Nicoletta was a real estate broker in Barrington for many years and was a member of the Graduate, Realtor Institute (GRI).  She was past-president of the Barrington Women’s Club and past-president of the Barrington Newcomers Club.  A member of St. Anne Church, Nicoletta was a volunteer for the Barrington Area Council on Aging (BACOA) as well as a member of Good Shepherd Hospital Ladies’ Auxillary.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking playing bridge, dancing, traveling, the sunshine, time at the beach but most of all  spending time with her family.    

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Church , 120 Ela St. (corner of Franklin and Ela Streets), Barrington, where she will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father Tom Bishop will officiate. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631-3497
