Nils Gosta Bjors

July 25, 1929 — December 21, 2021

Davenport Barrington

Nils Bjors, 92, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021. He was born July 25,1929 in Leksand Sweden to the late Maria and Anders. He was the third of six children and enjoyed a close and loving relationship with his siblings.

He attended engineering school in Sweden, became a mechanical engineer and held several patents. He moved to the Chicago area in 1955 and met the love of his life, his wife, Betty. They married on November 24, 1960.  Nils designed and built his home from the ground up in Barrington, IL where he raised his family and resided for more than 50 years.

Nils enjoyed flying gliders, camping, fishing, and taking long road trips. He cut and polished rocks and gems to make jewelry for his wife, could fix just about anything that was broken, and was a world traveler; something he took great pride in. As you may know, he was always enjoying a good meal (especially Swedish meatballs), had quite the sweet tooth, and made the best Swedish pancakes. He was also an incredible storyteller. You could always find him deep in conversation with someone. He loved long phone calls with his siblings, granddaughters and friends. Everyone that knew him says they could listen to his stories for hours and that he should have written a book about all of his remarkable experiences.

He was a fantastic husband and father who loved his family deeply. He immersed them in his Swedish culture with yearly summer trips to visit his family in Sweden and travel abroad.  He saw the positive side of things in even the most difficult situations and always had a life story to back up his beliefs. He would constantly make sure we knew he had a good life. He wouldn’t have changed a thing. He was well loved and he loved well.

Far surpassing all of his accomplishments, what made him the happiest in life were his three granddaughters; Linnea, Carina and Kyra. He enjoyed his monthly one-on-one dates to the restaurant of their choice where he would happily listen to them talk about what was going on in their lives. He would give them advice for the future which always included study hard and do well in school. He attended every gymnastics meet, dance recital and school performance they had. He was excited to share their accomplishments to whomever would listen and could not have been more proud of them. He loved them with every fiber of his being.

In addition to his parents, Nils was preceded in death by his wife Betty (Woodman) Bjors, brothers; Anders Lennart, Karl Birger, and Bengt Ake. He is survived by his daughter, Ingrid Bjors (Dennis O’Brien) granddaughters Linnea, Carina and Kyra; his son Hans Bjors; and his sisters, Anna Maria Malmqvist and Karin Bjors.

Nils will be joyfully remembered and celebrated on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 1:00pm by his family and friends, at the Village Church of Barrington.
