A funeral mass for Norbert J. Thoma, 88, of Barrington, IL, will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St. (at the corner of Ela & Franklin Sts.), Barrington, IL, where he will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Father Bernie Pietrzak will officiate. Interment will be private. Born October 12, 1920 in Chicago, IL, he entered eternal life September 16, 2009 at Good Shepherd Hospital. Norbert was a former general manager of Slade Gorton Co., Chicago, IL, for 52 years. He retired in 1991. He was also a member and officer of the National Fisheries Institute. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs Fan and a veteran of the Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Thoma; daughters, Kathy (Jim) Uszler, Donna (Terry) Rieck, Judie (Jeff) May, and David (Maria) Thoma; nine grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, Gregory, Robin, Adam, Mindi, David, Keri, and Jesse; and four great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Josephine; his brothers, Charlie, Andy and Paul; and a sister, Anne.
