Noreen Marie (Jacobs) Poole

December 21, 1950 — January 25, 2021

Davenport Lake Zurich

Noreen Marie Poole (née Jacobs), of Carpentersville, IL passed away peacefully on Monday January 25, 2021 with her loving family by her side.

Noreen was born on December 21, 1950 in Chicago, IL. Among her family, Noreen was affectionately known as “Bunny”. The eldest of her siblings, Noreen would cherish her sisters and brothers throughout her childhood. Always thoughtful and greatly protective of them, she would always value their bond over being accepted and liked by her peers. Noreen developed a deep appreciation for music in her youth as well, attending many local concerts, and spending countless hours listening to the Beatles in the basement with her sister, Eileen – strumming along to the guitars, and mouthing the lyrics. Noreen graduated from Madonna High School in 1968.

Noreen moved to Streamwood, IL in 1973, where she would raise her sons Scott and Jamie. Later, her sisters Eileen and Julie would also move close by. Here, they would enjoy many special days together, and Noreen would babysit both of their children in her time off – forming a close bond with them as well. After divorcing from her husband, Michael, Noreen went back to work as a cashier at Cub Foods in Hanover Park, IL, where her shining character fostered strong relationships with her co-workers, and her customers. Noreen would stay with Cub Foods until the store closed in 2006 – continuing to work while battling end-stage renal disease and undergoing outpatient dialysis three days a week.

Upon retiring from work, Noreen would spend her much deserved free time further exploring her love for nature. In the warm months, she could often be found tending to flowers outside her home, and visiting various gardens, parks, and shorelines. Noreen had a loving affinity for elephants, swans, and butterflies. Each summer, she would spend countless hours visiting with the swans that called the Schaumburg Prairie Center Park their home for the season. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and could also be found cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks through good and bad years.

Courageous, resilient, and tenacious are just a few words to describe Noreen. She would encounter more adversity throughout her life than many ever will. Yet, she persevered, pushing through a plethora of life-threatening infections and surgical complications – often to the astonishment of her doctors. Even in the toughest of times, Noreen’s luminous nature shined through, and those caring for her would quickly come to notice just how special she was.

Above all else, Noreen cherished her family. The sound of her infectious laughter will forever resonate among them.

Noreen is survived by her loving sons Scott and Jamie (Alyssa); her beloved cat, Gavin; her cherished siblings, Eileen (Wayne), Mary, Julie (Don), Bob (Sheila), and Phil; nieces and nephews, Tammy, Eric, Kevin (Tiffany), Katie, Erin, Meaghan, and Caroline.

Preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Roxanne; her cherished father, Phil; and her loving mother, June.

A memorial visitation for Noreen will be held from 5pm until the time of service at 7pm on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
