Norma A. (Spale) Carey

Norma A. Carey passed away peacefully January 27 in Barrington.  She was born August 1, 1926 in Chicago to Joseph and Rose Spale.

Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Daniel; and her loving daughter, Jane in 2021.  She is survived by her son in law, Tom McDonough; grandchildren, Tommy, Katie, and Jack; soon to be granddaughter-in-law Grace and soon to be grandson-in-law Jason.

Norma graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in English. She went on to work for the Sun Times and Barrington School District. She spent many years working for and volunteering with the Barrington Public Library, including helping to pass a referendum and build a new library. She was also the president of the philanthropic Barrington Woman’s Club until 1976.

Norma enjoyed passing her time listening to her favorite radio station, WFMT, as well as Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel, and Rod Stewart. She spent many years supporting the Chicago Lyric Opera, The Art Institute of Chicago, and The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, an activity she enjoyed with her friends and grandson, Tommy. Norma also spent many years going to U of I games with her beloved husband, Daniel.

Norma was loved by anyone who met her, but you would hold a special place in her heart if you brought her favorites - biscottis or ice cream sundaes. We will miss her infectious personality and unexpected sassy commentary that made everyone around laugh.

Visitation will be from 10am until the funeral service at 12pm Tuesday January 31 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake Cook Road) Barrington.  Burial will follow in White Cemetery, Cuba Township.
