On February 16, 2019, Norman Francis Lynott, of Woodstock, passed away after a period of declining health. Norm was born August 15, 1929 in Wheaton, Illinois to John Sylvester and Neva Isabelle (McMillan) Lynott.
He grew up in Crystal Lake with his three brothers, John, Bob and Mark. Norm was baptized at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Woodstock in 1947. After high school, Norm attended Loyola University in Chicago before serving in the Korean War. Norm spent almost twenty years as a regional sales manager for Dun & Bradstreet, and fifteen years at ITT Industrial Credit before opening a travel agency in Cary, Illinois. He also worked nine years for IDOT. Norm was a long-time member of the American Legion on Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake, the Moose Lodge in Woodstock and enjoyed coin collecting in his free time.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers; and his much beloved aunts, Vera McMillan Walsh, and Loretta Lynott. Survivors include his wife of thirty-two years, Carol; his half-brother, Brian Douglas Lynott; his five children, Michelle LaPenna, Patricia Lynott, Michael Lynott, John Lynott, and Mary Wojcik; his four step-children, Michael Duncan, Susan Faulkner, Elizabeth Goorsky, and Colleen Smith; his eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Anyone who knew Norm was immediately taken by his wit and warmth, and his infectious sense of humor. Norm was always willing to reach out to his friends and neighbors to lend a hand if ever needed. He will be missed by all who knew him and called him friend. The family would like to extend special thank you to Wauconda Care Rehabilitation Center for their attentiveness, compassion and exceptional care.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, March 2, from 10am until 2pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (IL Rt 176), Crystal Lake.
