Olga Griffin

June 21, 1932 — November 6, 2014

Olga T. “Babs” Griffin passed away peacefully on November 6, 2014 at the age of 82.

She was born in Bermuda to British Army Captain William and Gladys Horlington and grew up in Bermuda, Egypt and England. She met her loving husband of 57 years, Robert “Bob” Griffin, while he was a Naval Lieutenant aviator stationed in Bermuda. A 44 year resident of Barrington, Babs was a long-time volunteer at the Catchpenny Thrift Shop, shared her passion for reading as a tutor at Lines School, and was a member of the Barringtones singing group. She was an avid genealogist, phenomenal knitter (especially of Irish Aran knit sweaters) and loved maps; having earned a degree in geography from the University of Toronto. Babs graduated from The Bermuda High School for Girls and taught there after college and in Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children; Sarah (Bob) Wippman, Lisa (Paul) Horcher, Janice (Brad) Hack and William (Linda) Griffin; and her grandchildren: Sally, Sydney and Amy Wippman; Katie, Paige, Jessie, Nick, Mary and Jake Horcher; Abby and Lydia Hack; and Sam and Ally Griffin. Her kindness will be remembered by many.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 15th at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela Street (corner of Franklin and Ela Streets) Barrington, Il 60010.
