Olga Kugach (nee Hooczko), 94, of Barrington, IL passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 11, 1925 in Chicago to Andrew and Bessie Hooczko.
Olga, the second of four children, grew up in Chicago, attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School, and worked various jobs until she met her future husband, Walter Kugach. After a short courtship, they married and settled in a home Walter owned in Lombard, IL. It was there that they raised their three sons, Michael, Robert, and Bruce. When not at home taking care of the boys and the home, she worked at the local Jewel food store as a checker. Shortly after retiring with over 30 years of service, Olga and Walter moved to a new home that they designed and had built in Barrington. It was there that they enjoyed their retirement years. In 2018, they celebrated 61 years of marriage. While not a person who likes to travel, Olga enjoyed nothing more than staying home with Walter and having family and friends visit. If they took a “vacation,” it was driving (later flying) to Florida to visit family.
Olga is survived by her sons, Michael (Vicki) Kugach (Bolingbrook, IL), Robert (Mary) Kugach (Elburn, IL), and Bruce Kugach (Barrington, IL); her grandchildren, Jason, Nick, Kristin, Megan, Kelly, Andy and Bethany; great grandchildren, Sophia, Spencer, Joey and Ethan; and her sister, Irene Vinyard.
She is preceded in death by, Walter, her parents, and two brothers, John Hooczko and Dominic Hooczko.
The family will receive guests from 4 – 8 pm on Friday, March 20, 2020 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Prayers will be offered at 8:30am, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the funeral home before processing to St. Gall Catholic Church, 43W885 Hughes Rd, Elburn, IL 60119 for Mass at 10am.
