Olga “Augie” Homon Melchert, 86, of Huntley, Illinois, died peacefully of natural causes at home on Saturday, August 25, 2018. She was born in Chicago to Joseph & Anna (Ramyk) Homon on November 25, 1931.
Augie graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1950 and married Francis John Melchert in 1957. They raised four children in Des Plaines, IL.
An artist and graphic designer, Augie designed the iconic “triangle R” logo for Randhurst Mall in Mt. Prospect in the 1970’s. Augie earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Fashion & Design from Harper College in 1990. Known as an artist at Del Webb, Sun City Huntley, Augie frequently taught painting and portraiture classes. Later in life she developed a passion for iconography and completed four traditional Eastern icons.
Augie is survived by her daughters, Susan Melchert (Kess O’Halloran) of Pearl City, Hawaii and Leslie Ramyk Conforti of Chicago IL; son, James Melchert (Maria Melchert) of Crystal Lake, IL; her grandchildren include Gabrielle Melchert, Nichole Matijevic, Kiara Melchert, Frankie Melchert, Nathan Melchert, Mia Melchert, Magdalena Conforti, Samuel Conforti; and great grandchild, Sierra Matijevic.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francis John Melchert (1998) and her son Francis Joseph Melchert (2016).
A memorial visitation will be on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 9 am until the time of a mass at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd, Huntley, IL. Augie will be interred at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Des Plaines.
