Otto Machacek, 75, of Crystal Lake passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Elgin due to complications from a stroke.
He was born on June 9, 1941 in Chicago, the son of Marcella (Strmiska) Machacek and Otto Machacek. He married Margaret (Baumhardt) Machacek in Chicago on June 8, 1968. They met at Wright Junior College, and Otto immediately knew she was the one for him. Dancing together was one of their favorite activities. They celebrated 48 wonderful years of marriage.
Otto enlisted in the United States Army in February 1963 to March 1969. He was one of the first computer programmers to utilize the concept of mobile computers in Germany. Otto continued his profession after the military as a Computer Analyst. Otto obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Studies from Columbia College May 11, 2002.
He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and participated as a volunteer with the Ministry of Care at Advocate Good Shephard Hospital. He was a retired member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, January 1, 1996 – October 23, 2002, and served as a Flotilla Commander.
Otto enjoyed accompanying his wife to the Bachelor ‘N Bachelorette-McHenry Square Dancing Club, where he participated as treasurer. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed trips with his son and friends. He was an Assistant Scout Master in his son’s Boy Scout Troops 161 & 190. Otto enjoyed travel and made friends with Pat and Bob Barker in England. Special thanks to Lee Hayes and Phil Pickard, for the many outings and hours of lively conversation. He treasured the time spent with you.
Otto is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret E. Machacek; daughter, Kimberly (Witty) Dery and her husband John Dery and granddaughters, Elizabeth (Dery) Kane and Naomi (Dery) Creamer; daughter, Patricia E. Machacek; and son, Edward O. Machacek and his wife Courtney M. Machacek and granddaughter Elayna C. Machacek. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Marcella (Strmiska) Machacek; father Otto Machacek; sister, Roberta (Machacek) Moser; brother-in-law, John W. Baumhardt; and sister-in-law, Beverly (Burton) Baumhardt.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2017, from 4pm to 8pm at Davenport Funeral Home, located at 419 East Terra Cotta Ave (Rt. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Visitation will also be offered Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 9am to 10am, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 410 1st St., Cary, IL 60013. Mass will follow at 10am.
Private burial will be held for the immediate family. His remains will be interred at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
