Owen E. Wheeler passed away with dignity and courage at Northwestern Memorial Hospital due to complications related to pancreatic cancer on November 14. He was surrounded by his dear wife, Cecily, and a number of close and beloved friends. He was 52 years old. Born on Nov. 15, 1957 in Champaign, IL. Owen will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered to all as a kind, generous and honorable man. He was an extraordinary husband and companion to his wife of nine years, Cecily, and their beloved dog, Guinness. He is survived by his loving mother, Eleanor Wheeler; brothers, Hugh, Paul (Amy) and Neil (Janine) Wheeler; and sister, Kathleen Nelson (Keith), as well as his very special three nieces and three nephews. Owen was an avid photographer and woodworker, a Harley enthusiast, a history and military buff, an accomplished cook, and a very happy traveler. His life's journey led him to make friends easily and often. He founded the custom home theater and electronics company, Theaterworks, in Barrington and after 30 years in the industry, he was active in many forums and sought out as an experienced resource and mentor. He was available to all who sought advice, and his deep and long-term commitment to help those closest to him will leave a hole for many. His strength and determination will never be forgotten. Private funeral service followed by a celebration of life at Francesca's Famiglia, 100 E. Station St., Barrington, IL on Sunday, Nov. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. Words of tribute will be spoken at 3 p.m. Memorials to Northwestern Memorial Hospital Oncology Unit and Medical Intensive Care Unit, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Humane Society.
