The memorial visitation for Pamela Ann McCord, 69, a longtime, active member of the Barrington community since 1966, will be held from 2-8p.m., Sunday, July 6, at the Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Rd., Barrington, IL 60010.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 7, at the Barrington United Methodist Church.
Born August 30, 1944, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma to the late Gwynn and Phyllis (nee Barker) McCord, Pam passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Midwestern Regional Medical Center, Zion.
Pam grew up in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She graduated from DePauw University in 1966, with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and was a member of Alpha Phi.
In 1975, Pam and her former husband bought American International Hospital in Zion. That hospital became the foundation for Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Pam’s former husband continues his mission today.
From 1966 to the present, Pam held leadership roles in the Barrington Historical Society, Barrington Junior Women’s Club, Barrington Area Council on Aging, and the Barrington United Methodist Church.
Pam’s adventurous spirit led her to many wonderful experiences including: swimming, canoeing, waterskiing, traveling, and quilting. She experienced the thrill of a dog fight with Fighter Pilots USA, para gliding from Annie’s Point on Ajax Mountain; and skydiving on her 60th birthday with the Golden Knights of the Army. Pam was also an interior designer and Reiki Master.
In playing the game of life, Pam’s theme was, “Why not?” “Why not” listen for the greatness of others? “Why not” make a difference in the lives of individuals I don’t even know? “Why not” share love, light, and laughter with the world?
Pam was passionately devoted to her family and is survived by her sons, Dr. Christopher M. (Jamie) Stephenson and Shawn C. (Morgan) Stephenson; daughters, Annie (fiancé Bill Hostetler) and Jennifer (Darren) Keller; daughter-of-the-heart, Shelby L. Stephenson; grandchildren, Luke Daniel Stephenson, Richard Chase and Leland Tate Holsonback, and Madison Lynne, Dylan Patrick, Riley Ann, and Carson James Keller; sister, Patricia (Gerald) Schinkel; nieces, Megan (Dan) Suitor and Amanda (Jon) Gibson; grandnephew, Caleb Suitor; grandniece, Abigail Lynne Gibson; and former husband, Richard J Stephenson.
Share love, light, and laughter with the world.
