Pamela Cumpton, 70, of Barrington, IL, passed away in her home on December 30, 2019, surrounded by friends and family.
Pam was born in Chicago, IL, to the late Stuart Williams and Fern Brekke, on December 28, 1949. She was a proud alumna of North Park Academy and Northwestern University. She attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota.
She spent most of her career teaching English at Ray College of Design, which became the Illinois Institute of Art, in Schaumburg. She retired in 2012 and enjoyed playing golf and tennis. Pam cared deeply for her many perennial gardens, her rescued dogs and cats, and spent as much time with family as she could. She loved trivia contests and rarely missed an episode of “Jeopardy.”
Pam is preceded in death by a daughter, Elisabeth Fleur.
Pam will be sorely missed by her husband Jim Meyers of Barrington, daughter Abigail (Josh) Albright of Prior Lake, MN, son Benjamin (Elizabeth) Cumpton of West Des Moines, IA, five beloved grandchildren, sister Penny (Ted) Duke of Barrington, niece and nephew Eden and Adam (Susan) Duke of Fox River Grove, IL, step-son John (Erin) Meyers of Salt Lake City, UT, step-daughter Brittany Meyers of Bluffton, SC, cousins Bob (Jennifer) Shaw of Barrington and Tim (Ruth) Brekke of Cary, IL, and her dearest friend Nancy Piper of Jacksonville, FL.
Although countless, wonderful, medical professionals cared for Pam during her lengthy battle with cancer, her family extends sincere gratitude to Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern University, and especially Drs. Olga Frankfurt, Aparna Kalyan, and Kelly Foster. Pam held them in highest regard.
