Patricia (Potthoff) Halbur died peacefully on November 23, 2014 at her home in Lake Barrington IL with her family by her side. Pat was born October 15, 1936 to Peter and Lillian Potthoff of Halbur IA. Pat attended St. Augustine School in Halbur IA, and St. Angela Academy in Carroll IA. She continued on to Creighton University in Omaha NE where she earned a Bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. She also met her husband to be at Creighton, John J. Halbur of Willey IA. John and Pat were married in 1959, and they lived in Omaha NE, New Hope MN, Woodridge IL, and Naperville IL.
Pat taught high school English for a few years then worked in the home to care for her two young children. In the 1970's, she took part time work as a tutor of high school students who had a variety of temporary or permanent challenges, and she offered each of them her patience and best effort. She made a career change in the early 1980's and served as a real estate agent in Naperville IL. She still wanted to teach, so she worked with several adults seeking to learn English language skills. She was an avid bridge player and library patron. She was also a competitive golfer. Her chatty, quick with a joke personality allowed her to collect many, many friends over the years.
Pat was predeceased by her husband, John J. Halbur, and her brothers, Gary Potthoff, previously of Plano TX, and Bob Potthoff, previously of Halbur IA. Her fun loving spirit is remembered by her other siblings Marilyn Kafonek, Diane Clark, and Dan Potthoff of Lincoln NE, Donna Menolascino of Omaha NE, and Peter Potthoff of Glendale AZ. She was a good mother to her children, Lori Krinsky of Acton MA and Mark Halbur of Mundelein IL. Their spouses, David Krinsky and Rachelle Halbur, and her four grandchildren, Peter, Daniel, and Lucy Krinsky, and Nick Halbur recall her fondly.
Services for Patricia will be private.
