Patrick Harper

March 6, 1959 — March 3, 2015

Patrick “Pat” Harper, 55, of Crystal Lake, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Pat was born on March 6, 1959 in Lockport, IL to Helen (Redman) and Curtis Harper.

He graduated from Lockport High School and Arizona State University. On June 21, 1992, Pat married the love of his life and best friend, Donna Alegnani. His son, Kyle, was born in September of 1993 and Pat’s life was complete. Pat had a deep and abiding love of family and as the founder of Harper and Associates, he and Donna worked side by side for many years.

A true sports fan, Pat found his greatest joy in coaching Kyle’s sports teams and then cheering him on from the high school sidelines. Serving as a role model not only for Kyle, Pat made a difference in the many young lives he coached, stressing above all else sportsmanship, the joy of the game, and education.

Pat was a voracious reader, particularly of history, politics, biographies, and military affairs. Most recently, Pat played a significant role in the return of the remains of his cousin, Jack Redman, who was killed in action during WWII and buried on the battlefield. Bringing Jack home was a passion of Pat’s that spanned several years, with triumph just a few short months ago.

Many family memories were made as Pat, Donna, and Kyle traveled throughout the world with extended family. Gathering with family and friends was important to Pat and always included a special hug and handshake.

In addition to Donna and Kyle, Pat is survived by sisters, Penny (Doug) Sartori and Terri Kennedy; brother-in-law Marty (Ann) Alegnani; sister-in-law, Debbie (Jim) DiCola; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation is on Friday, March 6 from 3-9 p.m. at Davenport Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 1023 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org, or The Epilepsy Foundation, www.epilepsy.com, are appreciated.
