Paul Shumate

Born August 12, 1921 in Kirksville, MO, Paul Shumate passed away peacefully on his birthday August 12, 2013 in Barrington with his loving wife at his side.

Paul is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Helen (nee Glaser) Shumate, his devoted companion dog Mercedes whose very name reflects Paul’s lifelong love of cars, cousins, Carol Wells and Ethelyn Boddy. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Bernice Shumate and his son Mark K. Shumate.

Paul enjoyed spending time in both the desert of Arizona and on a lake in Wisconsin. He was a competitive bridge player and played duplicate bridge several times a week. By education he was an industrial engineer; loved selling and as an entrepreneur owned several companies.

Visitation will be held 1pm -3pm, with a service at 2:30pm, Sunday, August 18 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St (Lake-Cook), Barrington, IL. Interment will be private.
