Paul Harvey Sleger, 91, of Barrington, was born on September 15, 1924 in Green Bay, WI to Joseph and Rose (nee Herrick) Sleger. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Barrington.
Paul grew up in Manitowoc, WI. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. After basic training, he was selected into the ASTP Program at Washington State and earned a certificate for Engineering. He was assigned to the 11th Armor Division and soon joined Patton’s Third Army; participating in and lived through the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he graduated with an accounting degree from Marquette University in 1949. In June, 1949 Paul married Doris (nee Quade). He started working at Allstate Insurance in 1949, where he advanced from insurance rater to vice president and retired after being with Allstate for 40 years. Paul’s most recent accomplishment was documenting his memoirs on WWII, which is now pending publication.
Paul is survived by his children, Paul (Diane) Sleger, Jr., Lynn (Lowell) Stone, Al (Gloria Berlanga) Sleger, Laura (Gary) Stromberg, Rich (Vickie) Sleger, and Debbie (Dennis) Grewe; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris A. Sleger; his brothers, Joe (Betty) and Earl Sleger; and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 3pm until 8pm, Monday, June 27, 2016 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St., Barrington. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 9am until time of funeral Mass at 10am at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St., Barrington. Interment will be private.
