Peter Eric Greenlimb III

September 12, 1943 — July 13, 2022

Davenport Barrington

Dr. Peter E. Greenlimb III, 78, passed away July 13, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Peter was a man of integrity who always went out of his way to put others before himself. He lived and taught “family first,” which is how he will be honored by the family that survives him. Peter built his family with the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Donna R. Greenlimb.

Peter was born September 12, 1943 to Margaret Mary and Peter Eric Greenlimb II in Chicago, IL, where he was raised with his three older sisters, Phyllis (deceased), Margot, and Susan. Peter earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Carthage College and a master’s degree and doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Iowa. He began his career in the industrial water treatment industry in 1973. In 1988, Peter launched Chemagineering Corporation to provide chemical specialty compounds and services to the plastics, chemical and printing industries. As a successful entrepreneur, he was passionate about his business, which he actively managed until the day he died. Peter is a published author and led presentations, seminars and workshops in his field.

Peter was a true gentleman. He was generous, kind, and affectionate. He was a devout Christian, who studied the Bible and served through prison ministry. Peter most loved spending time with his children. He coached their sports teams, was an Indian Princess Dad, and an Assistant Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America for Troop 347 in Crystal Lake. With the Boy Scouts, Peter and his son, Peter Anthony, participated in Jamborees, trekked at Philmont, and canoed the waters in Eli. He was a nurturing and proud grandfather. Peter’s grandchildren remember their “Poppie” for his singing, scary stories, hot cocoa with extra marshmallows, playing with trains, devotion to family and faith, and his consistent love and encouragement.

Peter loved the outdoors and was an avid runner, participating in races of various distances. He completed the 2013 Chicago Marathon, crossing the finish line holding hands with his daughter, Holly. Peter was also a dog lover and steadfast supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Above all, Peter will be remembered as a committed family man and a loyal friend who could be counted on by anyone who knew him. He was quirky, funny, and always curious, eager to learn and become a better person.

Peter is survived by his wife, Donna, his daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Scott Seyer of Arlington Heights and Holly and Paul Crockett of Boston, MA, his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Elizabeth Greenlimb of Arlington Heights, and six adoring grandchildren, Kathryn, Lauren, Peter, Grace, Paul, and Ethan. Peter also leaves his mother- and father-in-law, Dolores and Anthony Lang, sister-in-law, Toni Lang, and sister- and brother-in-law, Carla and Matt Pfister, his sisters Margot Woolard and Susan Donofrio, and his brother-in-law Chuck Homer.
