Philip Wynen

Reverend Philip Van Wynen Rev. Philip Van Wynen, age 79, of Crystal Lake, Illinois went to be with the Lord Jesus on December 2, 2010. He was born on June 15, 1931 in Holland, Michigan son of Gilbert and Jeanette Van Wynen. He married his true love, Marietta Elgersma on August 5, 1955 in Holland, Michigan. He worked for over 25 years at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, initially as Personnel Manager , then Registrar and finally as Dean of Enrollment. His training included degrees from: Moody Bible Institute, Taylor University, Grand Rapids Seminary, as well as a Masters Degree from Bemidji State University. He also greatly enjoyed representing Moody while accompanying the Moody Men's Collegiate Choir on world-wide tours. Preceding his career at Moody, Philip served as a pastor at the Bagley Congregational Church(Bagley, MN), Immanuel Community Church (St. Paul, MN), and Lakeshore Baptist Church (Grand Haven, MI). His passion was loving people and serving the Lord. After retiring as Dean from Moody Bible Institute, Philip continued to work part-time on various projects for Moody as well as pastoring for local churches. His current church home was with the congregation of Zion United Church of Christ in Carpentersville, IL. He loved to preach, to sing, and to tell jokes. His hobbies included gardening, camping and model trains and toys. He was dearly loved and he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marietta of Crystal Lake, IL and by his three daughters, Cathy Wassenar (Ron Wassenar) of Villa Park, Illinois, Cheryl Marshall (Steve Marshall) of Woodstock, Illinois, and Connie Henschel (Tim Henschel) of Franklin, Tennessee. He has 5 grandchildren: Rachel Wassenar, David Wassenar (Sharon Wassenar), Emma, Jonathan and Allison Henschel. Originally from a family of seven children, Philip has one sister, Mary Decker (Leon Decker) of Owatanna, Minnesota and one brother Don Van Wynen (Vivian Van Wynen) of Dallas, Texas remaining. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Gerard and David, and his sisters Bertha Bouman and Angie Van Wynen. Visitation will be held Sunday December 5, 2010 from 2-8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. A memorial service will be held at Zion United Church of Christ, 138 N. Washington St. Carpentersville, Illinois at 11 am on Monday December 6, 2010. Memorials can be made to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois.
