The memorial service for Phillip Dunlap Matthews, 64, of Lake Barrington will be held Saturday, November 17 in the Fireplace Room at The Lodge at Lake Barrington Shores, 64 Old Barn Road, Lake Barrington, Illinois 60010. Memorial visitation will begin at 12pm until the service at 1pm.
Phillip was born November 14, 1953 in Ephrata, Pennsylvania and passed away peacefully on September 7, 2018.
He was a graduate of Millersville University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Phillip worked for NBC in Chicago in the production department for many years before his retirement.
Phillip was a member and past president of the Palatine Lions Club where he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, as well as a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He also volunteered at St. Alexius Medical Center and served on the Lake and Ponds commission at Lake Barrington Shores. Along with being active in the community, Phillip enjoyed fishing and vegetable gardening.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Daphne S. Hitchins; daughter, Quinn (Anthony) Banks of Boston, Massachusetts; brother, Edwin (Sandy) Matthews; niece, Heather (Neil) Matthews-Willoughby; Great Nephew and Niece, Nathan and Nora, of Maryland; and his faithful companions, Patrick and Bonnie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester Ray and Virginia (nee Malin) Matthews.
