Ralph B. Hipenbecker Jr., 80, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Barrington. He was born May 17, 1936 in Kansas City, MO and adopted by Ralph B. and Freda (nee Mason) Hipenbecker. His father, Ralph Sr., was widowed and married Velma (nee Marish) Hipenbecker.
Ralph served in the US Army as a private second class in Korea with the 6th armored division. He worked as a registered barber for many years at the Plaza Barber Shop; he was then employed as a tool and die maker at Tri-Cast Corp, both in Crystal Lake. He retired in 2001. Throughout his life, Ralph enjoyed bowling, boating, dancing, billiards, fishing and country music. His two favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers and the World Champion Chicago Cubs. He was a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake.
He is survived by his children, Annette (Michael Sr.) Barrett, Bob (Cheri) Hipenbecker, Diane (Jim Sabel) Hipenbecker, and Lisa (Steve) Amidei; and his grandchildren, Cassie, Tom, Tyler, Nathaniel, Alexandra, Kelsey, Gavin, Brandon, Clare, Michael Jr., and Viola.
Ralph is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (nee Novinska) Hipenbecker; his sister, Barbara (Fred) Stepper; and his parents.
The family will receive guests from 4-9 pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Prayers will be said at 10:30 am, Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake for a funeral Mass at 11 am. Burial at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.
