Reinhold Christoph Gedeit, 95, of Huntley was born on January 12, 1921 in Klaipeda, Lithuania. He passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in Huntley, Illinois.
Reinhold was born to Ana (nee Kiebrantz) and Adam Gedeit in Klaipeda, Lithuania where he grew up on the shores of the Baltic Sea. During WWII he left Lithuania and headed to Germany where he eventually was employed in Minden by the British Army. There he met his future wife, Emmy. They moved to the USA in 1956.
Reinhold was an avid inventor and writer, holding multiple patents and writing 2 books during his lifetime. He was a Teamster for more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Emmy (nee Rommermann) Gedeit; his children, Jim (Alice) Finke, Reinhold (Rachel) Gedeit, and Rainer (Margie) Gedeit; his grandchildren, Daniel, Amanda (fiancé, Brendan), Kay (fiancé, Scott), Beth and Claire; and his great granddaughters, Emily and Sophia.
He was preceded in death by five siblings, Anna, Adam, Max, Georg, and Hans as well as his parents.
The family will gather to receive guests from 1pm to 4pm, Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Davenport Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (IL Rt. 176), Crystal Lake. Interment will be private.
