A memorial service for Richard E. Carlini, 77, of Barrington, will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 14 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington. Pastor Diane Johnson will officiate. Born February 9, 1932 in Cicero, he passed away September 9, 2009 in Chicago. Burial will be private. Visitation 9-11 a.m., Monday, September 14 at the funeral home. Richard lived in Cicero until 1960 when he moved to Des Plaines. He moved to Palatine in 1979 and Barrington in 1998. He graduated from Morton High School in 1950 and received a B.S. in Education from Northwestern University in 1956 and a M.S. in Education in 1962 from Northern Illinois University, with an additional 30 hours beyond the M.S. requirements. During the Korean War he served as an Engineman in the Navy from 1952 until 1955. Richard retired in 1986, after 34 years at Maine West High School where he taught physical education, as well as 8 years as Athletic Director. He was a member of Cross & Crown Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights. In addition to being an outstanding P.E. teacher, football and wrestling coach, he was also a brilliant woodworker, craftsman, and artist. He was a skilled sailor and loved all kinds of boats. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a good friend to all who knew him. Richard loved and lived life to the fullest, and was thrilled to be an Italian. Survivors include his wife, Heide nee Brose, sons Richard (Paula) of Barrington Hills and Perry (Jenny) of Crystal Lake, stepson Todd Ryland (Donna) Kemp of Carol Stream, grandchildren Diana and Eva Carlini, and Anthony, Vincent, and Sophia Carlini. He was preceded in death by his parents, Constantino and Susan nee Gianeschi Carlini, brothers Nello, Harvey, Robert, and Norman Carlini, and sisters-in-law Dorothy and Helen Carlini.
