Richard Eugene Fischer

Richard Eugene Fischer, 91, of Punta Gorda, FL, originally of Chicago, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018.   He was born in Chicago on February 17, 1927 to Frank Fischer (Ryba) and Genevieve (Chmielinski) Fischer.

Dick was a devoted husband for 67 years to his wife, Marie Labelle Fischer (Newman).   She preceded him in death on September 10th,  2017.  He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be fondly remembered for his good humor and quick wit.

Dick, a proud veteran of the US Navy, served in WWII as an electrician’s mate.  Just last July he had the privilege of taking part in the Honor Flight to Washington DC while being featured on WGN news.

A Chicago native, Dick attended Lane Tech High school and graduated from Purdue University.  His career as an engineer for NBC-TV spanned from 1946 until his retirement in 1988.  He was a boating enthusiast and was a proud member and Past Commander for the Skokie Valley Power Squadron. He and his Wife Marie retired to Punta Gorda, FL. He quickly became a member of the Platinum Point Yacht Club where he eventually became Commodore.   Dick and Marie enjoyed many sun-filled retirement years together living life to the fullest.

Dick will be sadly missed by his children, Richard G. (Mary) Fischer, Robert M. (Debbie) Fischer, Pamela (Christopher) Dayney, and Russell (Tonya) Fischer; grandchildren,), Shaun (Kerri), Theresa (Andrew) Ewing, Tyler (Lauren), Kendall (Marielle),  Ian Hoffman and Theresa Dayney, Elijah Dayney and Genevieve Dayney and great grandchildren, Carver, Parker and Olivia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marie,  and sister, Lorraine Smith.

A service will be held at a later date.   Dick, along with Marie, will be interred at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.
