Dick was born on August 24, 1930 and was raised by his parents Charles and Hilma Gainer on Chicago’s northwest side where he graduated Foreman High School, then attended the University of Illinois. At 6’7, Dick was captain of the basketball team at the University’s extension at Navy Pier for two years. He then transferred to the main campus at Champaign where he met Dee and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Accountancy. The day after commencement, Dick embarked on his career at United Airlines as an entry level Accountant and went on to spend 39 years with United before he retired as the Director of Financial Accounting and Reporting. He achieved many successes in his admirable career, but he was most proud of his time serving as President of the (then named) National Association of Accountants-Northwest Suburban Chapter. Dick and Dee were married in 1953, lived in Brookfield, IL., Oak Park, Hoffman Estates where they raised their daughters and finally North Barrington before heading south.  Dick and Dee relocated to Bonita Springs FL and joined the Spanish Wells Country Club. During their time in Florida, they made many lifelong friends with whom they played golf and traveled with.  In 2002 Dick and Dee returned to Lake Barrington Shores, Illinois to be close to their family and were members of the golf club for six years. Dick will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
