Richard was born June 22, 1944 in Chicago to William and Edna Grethe. He passed away August 4, 2017 in Genoa City, WI.
Richard is survived by his daughter Tammy (Greg) Gray; sons, Richard (Barb Wells) and Kevin Grethe; grandchildren, Ryan Grethe and Amanda Gray; sister Diane (Claude) Sonday; niece, Susan, and nephew, Eric. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William, Herbert, and Robert.
Richard was well known in the early 70s and late 80s in the Milwaukee area for his after market motorcycle accessory store, Rich’s Pit Stop. Later, he closed the store and sold much of the inventory at swap meets. He enjoyed riding and collecting motorcycles and was involved in the entire Harley experience. He was an avid firearm enthusiast and collector. For a time, a dealer. Rich was well known for his prowess at the pool table. For many years, until his passing, he was very active in the stock market. Buying and selling stocks from his bed in the nursing home the last couple of years. He enjoyed discussing politics and watched FOX news daily while in the nursing home. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Rich was a unique individual and will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Visitation will be 4-8pm, Friday, August 11 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St (Lake-Cook Road) Barrington and from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am Saturday, August 12 at the funeral home. Burial in Lake Zurich (formerly St. Peters) Cemetery, Lake Zurich.
