Richard C. Janka, age 94, of Lake Villa, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on
October 15, 2021 in Barrington, Illinois. Dick was born in Hammond, Indiana on December 28, 1926 to
the late Charles and Margaret Janka.
He graduated from Hammond High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army for 3 years stationed in Germany. After
his service, he came back home and pursued his interest in physical fitness, eventually owning several Chicagoland health
clubs in the 1950s. His passion for fitness remained throughout his life as he continued to work out several times a week
well into his 80s.
In 1961, he began his career at Allstate Insurance Company working as an agent in the Lake County
Illinois area. He retired after 50 years with the company. He loved watching sports and was a lifelong
Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football fan and season ticket holder.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Andreana “Ande” Janka in 2009.
He was a loving father to his 4 children, April Watson, Riccarda Janka, Rebecca Tonigan (Henry Charles Tonigan III), and
Charles Janka (Kristina Janka). He adored his 7 grandchildren, Beth Delfanti, Scott Miller, Henry Charles
Tonigan IV, Alexandria Tonigan, Nicholas Janka, Max Janka, and Jack Janka as well as 2 great
grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He will be greatly missed by his life partner, LaDonna Eddy,
and her family who all treated him as a part of their family.
