Richard Henry Kropp

Richard Kropp, 79, of Crystal Lake, passed away August 19, 2017 at Sunrise Assisted Living and Memory Care in Crystal Lake.

He was born July 3, 1938 in Steubenville, Ohio.

Dick leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Marilynn, whom he married in Algonquin in 1990.  His is survived by his dear niece Dr. Debbie (John) Johnson , of Toledo Ohio;  his step-children, Dana March (Jeff) Jucknowski of Crystal Lake and Christopher (Jennifer) March of Denver, Colorado; his children, David (Jill) Kropp of Lexington, South Carolina, and Sarah (Jeff) Sedlack, of Crystal Lake; nieces, Laura Barker and her children, Alex and Andrea of Oakwood Hills; sister-in-law, Dorothy Baldauf of Ft. Pierce, Florida; grandchildren, Jeremy March, Gianna  Jucknowski, Jace Jucknowski, Korra Jucknowski of Ringwood,  Andrew March and Evan March of Denver, Colorado, and Amber Kropp and Mazie Sedlack of Crystal Lake.  Additionally, there are many nieces and nephews for whom he cared deeply and who were so very good to him who will miss him:  Susan (Marty) Davis, Michael Holmes, Jean (Jim) Olsen, Carol (Keven) Gunwall, Rick Barker, Karen (John) Ross, Kathy (Bill) Jones, Patti (Jim) Miegs; and numerous good friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Henry Kropp; his brother, David Kropp; his mother-in-law, Gertrude Barker; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Charles Holmes; and, more recently, his brother-in-law, Bill Baldauf.

When Dick first came to Crystal Lake, he was employed by Terra Cotta Industries for several years. For many years he was the owner and operator of the Kropp Insurance Agency in Crystal Lake.  Dick earned a BA from Washington Jefferson College, Washington, Pennsylvania.  He also served our country in the U.S. Army.  Dick was proud to have served on the Crystal Lake City Council from 1979 to 1983, and he was one of the original Crystal Lake Ambassador’s, being a member of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce.  Dick loved his community and participating in community events and his neighborhood association board.  He was always very generous with his time and resources for both his friends (often his clients) and his family.  Dick was always up for a good card game, especially with his good friends in Cary.  His wonderful disposition and his positive outlook were a joy to his friends and family and is one of the things that will be dearly missed about him.  Dick would want to thank all of his friends and family who supported him and showed him compassion as he met the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease these last several years.

Friends are welcome to visit with Dick’s family on Friday, August 25 from 4-7pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte. 176) Crystal Lake. The funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, August 26 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.

While flowers are always an appropriate expression of sympathy, the family would sincerely appreciate that Dick be honored through memorial donations in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011 in hopes of a future cure for others and/or Vitas Hospice, 12179 Regency Pkwy, Huntley IL 60142 for their compassionate care.
